Becoming Maggie - Laura McPherson and John Allardice
Following on from the success of their recent pantomime Snow White, members of the award-winning Stewarton Drama Group are currently hard at work rehearsing for their next exciting production An Evening of Comedy and Dramawhich will be presented in the theatre in the town’s Area Centre at 7.30pm on FRIDAY 19TH & SATURDAY 20TH FEBRUARY 2010.
The production will feature performances of two original one-act plays, both written and directed by group member, Nancy McPherson. The two contrasting pieces each last 40 minutes and will give the audience a varied nights entertainment, with a distinctly Scottish flavour.
The evening will start off with a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles to welcome the audience and warm them up for the first performance of an intriguing play, set in the 1940s, BECOMING MAGGIE. The action of the play takes place on a beach on the Ayrshire coast, which has provided an interesting challenge for the set builders! Two experienced actors, John Allardice who plays Robert and Laura McPherson who plays Maggie, are sure to delight audiences with their sensitive portrayal of the story of two young people caught up in dramatic events of the period.

Next up is a performance of THE NIGHT I DANCED WITH CYD CHARISSE. There are some hilarious comic moments in the play as the five characters get through a day of surprises in their workplace in a garage workshop. A strong cast is lined up for this play, each portraying engaging characters, sure to be a hit with audiences. Alison Barr who is expert at delivering a comedy line, is well cast as Betty, and Linda Wilson gives a sensitive performance as Miley the attractive office assistant. The three mechanics add up to a formidable team on stage - Walter Findlay brings his magic to the role of Wilson, the senior fitter, while David Robertson, as ever, shows his versatility and gives a convincing performance as McBride. Finally, Jim Goldie puts in an excellent, very funny performance as the apprentice mechanic, Lennox.
The evening will include a thirty minute interval during which a licensed bar will sell wine. A complimentary light buffet will also be available, courtesy of Stewarton Drama Group.
