Stewarton Traders Association

Stewarton Traders Association 9th February 2010
Millhouse Hotel, Stewarton

Present: David Bonellie, Mags Paterson, George Paterson, Donald McLean, Charlie Gormley, Dawn Borland, Mr and Mrs King Apologies: Tracey Hogarth, Paul Moon, Lyndsay Philips

Mr Bonellie welcomed everyone to the meeting.

There was a short discussion on the success of the Yuletide event, which seemed to run smoothly. DB agreed to send a letter to the Police with regard to the parking ticket issued to Mrs Montgomery who had provided the marquee in the Avenue Square.

There had been no problems with outside Traders.

David thanked Donald McLean for all his hard work and advised those present that Donald had intimated that he would no longer be able to take full responsibility for the organisation of this event, due to pressures of work. He would still be able to help out. Stuart Allison had been approached and was considering the matter further. DB asked Donald to prepare a timetable of events, which would help for the coming year,

Tracey attended the Community Council meeting on the 18th January and an update was circulated and discussed. DB would ask Donald Fulton for some further information on Fair Trade Town status.

The new train timetable was now running well.

The Shopping Guide, which was prepared to coincide with the Yuletide Festival, had been distributed to all traders but it was agreed that if this was done again it should be ready at least three weeks before the event.

Peter Brown had his planning application for the Snack Bar rejected and Mr and Mrs King from Ruby’s would personally like to thank all those Traders and members of the community who supported her objection.

Community Bus – DB referred to the item on the Community Council notes and agreed that he would speak to Tracey who has been ill and if she is in agreement he will liase with the Community Council and get the logo’s organised. Artwork should be sent to George Paterson who can transfer them to either a pdf or Jpeg format. His email address is info@annickart.co.uk.

Music Festival - this event is planned for Thursday 10th June. A letter of intent has been sent to J Davidson at EAC with regard to the Road Closure and the Grant Application is in the process of being completed.

Donald raised the issue of the road being narrowed at the Cross. DB would speak to Councillor Cunninghame. He also mentioned the possibility of a “friendly Traffic Warden” to help with the parking issues but it was agreed that as we hadn’t had them patrolling for a while we were better off without them.

There had been a general lack of interest shown for the Traders Association and the attendance at our meetings was poor. Following a discussion, Mags has agreed to contact each trader and request an email address so that a mailing list can be set up. Once this has been finalised DB will send a letter to traders, encouraging them along to the next meeting. This might also be an appropriate time to have an Annual General Meeting.

Next Meeting

This would be held at the Millhouse Hotel, on Tuesday 9th March 2010, at 6.00 p.m.
